How to Pamper a Kitten

Are you bringing a new kitten into your home? Congratulations! That tiny ball of fur will no doubt soon have a special place in your heart, and will be a big part of your life and household for years to come. However, your little furball will need lots of TLC during her kittenhood. Read on as a Greensboro, NC vet discusses how to properly spoil a kitten.

Veterinary Care

Your pint-sized pet will need to visit the vet a few times during her first year. A thorough exam is definitely in order. We also recommend that kittens be spayed or neutered, microchipped, and kept current on their vaccinations and parasite control. Ask your vet to recommend an appointment schedule.

Kittyproofing

Never underestimate little Fluffy’s ability to get into mischief! Make your home safe for your frisky pet by removing or securing potentially-dangerous items, such as toxic plants; wires and cords; medicine; chemicals, such as automotive products, cleaning agents, and lawn/garden products; and small or sharp items. Be sure to keep large appliances, like toilets, closed when not in use.

Kitty Furniture

Little Fluffy will really appreciate having some things made just for her. Get your furball a good scratching post or board, and some kitty furniture, such as a cat tower or kitty tent.

Comfy Napping Spots

Cats are rather drowsy by nature. However, Fluffy will be particularly sleepy when she is little, because important growth hormones are released when she is sleeping. Offer your tiny furball lots of comfy beds and napping spots to look adorable in.

Playtime

Kittens are basically tiny little bundles of mischief. Playing with your pet daily will entertain her, help her burn off excess energy, and strengthen the bond between you. Also, make sure your feline buddy has lots of toys to pounce on, and spend a few minutes a day holding a wand toy or laser pointer for her to chase.

Love

The best thing you can do for your feline friend is simply to pay lots of attention to her, and make sure she feels happy, loved, and safe. Talk to little Fluffy, play with her, and let her snuggle up with you when she wants. Time spent with kittens is never wasted!
