Routine Check-ups

Bringing your pet in for an exam at least once a year allows us to discover and treat any developing issues before they become serious.

Every check-up appointment at our Greensboro clinic includes a complete physical examination, routine vaccinations, and blood and urine screening.

At these appointments, we can also discuss your pet's diet and offer nutritional advice as needed.

  • Friendly Animal Clinic and all its staff have ALWAYS taken AMAZING care of all of my babies. They definitely go above and beyond. Love them and will never take my babies to another vet as long as I live in Greensboro or a city nearby. I trust them 150% with my furbabies' health and wellbeing. I couldn't ask for a better vet to take my animals to. Thank you Friendly Animal Clinic for all you do. And always so nice, they make me feel right at home.

What to Expect During an Exam

Your vet will assess your pet's physical condition to determine their overall health. This includes the following areas:

  • General Condition

Your pet's general behavior and body condition will be observed in terms of how they stand and walk, whether they are bright and alert, and if they have appropriate body weight.

  • Skin & Coat

We will check your cat or dog's coat and skin for dermatological issues, including excessive hair loss or shedding, dryness or oiliness, dandruff, or any lumps and bumps.

  • Head Region

Your vet is looking at your pet's eyes, ears, and nose for any signs of discharge, growths, or other abnormalities.

They will examine their mouth to determine if there are any oral health issues, such as plaque buildup or gum disease.

  • Internal Health

We check the heart and pulse of your pet to detect any abnormalities in their heart rate, rhythm, or blood pressure. Listening to their lungs helps determine any abnormal breathing that may be of concern.

Our vets will palpate the lymph nodes to identify swelling or pain, as well as the abdomen area to check for aberrations of the bladder, intestines, kidneys, stomach, spleen, and liver. We also ascertain any discomfort this examination may cause.

  • Nutritional Consulting

Your vet may also discuss your pet's current diet and make dietary recommendations based on your cat or dog's weight, any skin conditions they may have, or behaviorial concerns.

Vaccinations & Prevention

If your pet is due for any of their routine vaccinations or if they require preventive care, your vet will discuss this with you during their exam.

Age-Related Pet Care

Routine examinations will thoroughly check your pet from head to tail. But your exam may also include other elements if your pet is a puppy or kitten or in their geriatric years.

Puppies & Kittens

Puppies and kittens need extra care in the first year to be sure they are off to a good start! Around 6 weeks of age, they will need our attention.

Your new arrival will have a thorough physical examination, receive the first of their immunizations, have a test for intestinal parasites, and be given deworming medication. We will provide you with some information on the best ways to care for your new pet. We'll also give you a puppy or kitten kit that has samples and other educational material so you are well prepared to take care of your furbaby!

If you have any questions about caring for your new kitten or puppy, please be sure to ask. We'll see you for additional visits to complete the vaccination series.

Seniors

Senior pets are living longer due to medical advances, newer therapies, and better nutrition. Regular evaluations are very important for our ageing friends!

  • They have supported me and cared for my pets for almost 20 years. They rejoiced and cried with me through them all. They have more compassion than any vet I’ve ever visited. Quality and value. I would never go anywhere else.
